Trumpet Lesson Plan
Beginners
- Lesson 1 – Meet the trumpet. Learn all the basic parts of the trumpet and how to care for them. Buzz the mouthpiece, learning basic lip positions. Basic explanation of how the valves work.
- Lesson 2 – Make playing fun. If playing trumpet isn’t fun the student won’t stick with it. We try to get to simple songs as fast as possible. We teach each student to not only read music, but to play by ear.
- Lesson 3 – Toning Up. We work on producing a nice, musical tone. This is as much for the parents as the student.
- Lesson 4 – Scales. Introduce student to basic major scales. Scales are the building blocks of music. We incorporate piano into early lessons as an aid to understanding music.
- Lesson 5 on – Individual Lessons. Each student learns at a different pace and responds to different methods. We tailor lessons to each student.
Intermediate
- Lesson 1 – Meet the student. Listen to and evaluate the student to see where they are in their development. Find out student’s goals and aspirations as a trumpet player and musician.
- Lesson 2 - Fundamentals. No matter which direction the student wishes to go with his or her music, a good solid, fundamental base is necessary for success as a musician. We will begin exploring and refining trumpet technique.
- Lesson 3 – All That Jazz. Every successful trumpet player is well versed in not only classical trumpet literature but also in the basics of jazz. Even students who aspire to play legitimate music (Classical) should be familiar with the other form of “serious” music, jazz. The best musicians of any genre including, jazz, pop, gospel, classical, etc. all have solid musical backgrounds steeped in “serious” musical study.
- Lesson 4 on – Individual Lessons. An in depth discovery of each student’s potential and creative individuality as a trumpet player and musician.
Advanced
- Advanced students will receive highly individualized study plans including solo and group studies with an emphasis on recording techniques.
